PurnasaidtotheBuddha:“TheWorld-HonoredOne,forwhatsinshadIcommitted,Iregressedfromtheaspirationfornuttara-samyak-sambodhiinaneon?”TheBuddhasaid:“Purna,becauseyouhadfollowedandreliedonevilteachersandfriendsandhadnotbeenabletowidelyropagatethedharma,youregressedfromtheaspirationforAnuttara-samyak-sambodhi.”

有为界，都是在十八界法，以及由十八界法作助缘而辗转从入胎识中出生的一切法，这些是有为界；意思是说，这些法都是三界中的有为法；而这些有为法都是有其功能差别的，所以也都有功能上的限制，名为有为界。至于无为界，是说不住于生死轮转之法中，即是说无余涅槃之本际，也就是第八识如来藏。

Theactiverealmreferstothedharmasoftheeighteen-divisionsofsenseandalldharmasthatariseindirectlyfromtheembryo-enteringconsciousnesswiththeaidofthedharmasoftheeighteen-divisionsofsense.
Thismeansthesedharmasareallactivedharmaswithinthethree-realms;theseactivedharmashavetheirfunctionaldistinctions,andthushavetheirfunctionallimitations.Therefore,theyarecalledtheactiverealm.
Astothenon-activerealm,itdoesnotdwellinthedharmaofthecycleofbirthsanddeaths,andistheoriginalstateofremainderlessnirvana,namelytheeighthconsciousness—Tathagatagarbha.
